What this book is about
A beginner's course book in spoken Punjabi by Henry A. Gleason, Jr. and Harjeet Singh Gill, published by the Publication Bureau, Punjabi University, Patiala in 1997. It works through twenty lessons built on short dialogues set in everyday settings such as a sweet shop, a fruit market, a rickshaw ride, the Golden Temple at Amritsar, Diwali, Id, Lohri, a village kitchen and a farm, with pronunciation drills, usage notes and pattern practice based on a comparative analysis of Punjabi and American English sound and sentence structures. The preface states it was first circulated in mimeograph form in Hartford Studies in Linguistics in 1963 and that it accompanies the authors' A Reference Grammar of Punjabi.
