What this book is about
Sam Arth Kosh, a Punjabi dictionary of synonyms and near-equivalents, compiled by Sant Manjit Giani Gurbanchan Singh 'Khalsa' of Bhindran Wala and edited by Giani Kirpal Singh, who was granthi of Sri Akal Takht Sahib and manager of the Sri Akal Takht Sahib, Amritsar. Bhai Vir Singh's firm at Bazar Mai Sewan, Amritsar, published it and Jeevan Printers of East Mohan Nagar printed it; the first edition is dated 1969 and a revised second edition April 2002, at Rs 150. The editor's own preface pays tribute to the compiler and thanks Bhai Sahib Dr. Bhai Vir Singh, Giani Lal Singh, and others. A contents page indexes the entries by section, varga and the 'mul shabd', the headword treated as the standard spelling, and a note explains the symbols used in the dictionary proper.
