by www.DiscoverSikhism.com

What this book is about

This is volume two of Dr Darshan Singh's Guru Granth Sahib Sentence By Sentence, a word-by-word rendering that prints the Gurmukhi text, a roman transliteration and an English translation for each line, with page numbers from 296 to 556 of the scripture. The title page identifies the author as Professor Emeritus of Punjabi University, Chandigarh, and formerly professor and chairman of the Department of Guru Nanak Sikh Studies there; the ISBN and the third edition of 11 April 2010 are printed, and the book is published by Sikh University Press, Waremme, Belgium, distributed by Singh Brothers of Bazar Mai Sewan, Amritsar, and printed at Printwell, Industrial Focal Point, Amritsar. The sample pages show the format in practice: Gurbani in Gurmukhi, then a romanised line, then a plain English sentence such as "God is one, realized by the grace of true Guru," with the closing couplet attributed to Nanak. The work is intended to let the reader follow the scripture word by word rather than through compressed verse summaries.
