What this book is about
This edition of Bhai Gurdas's Kabit Savaiye was edited by Dr Oankar Singh and published by the Publication Bureau, Punjabi University, Patiala, in 1993, printed at a press in Patiala under the Registrar of the university. The preface by Dr Joginder Singh Puar, Pro-Vice-Chancellor, with a foreword by Dr Balkar Singh, explains that it was prepared by the Department of Study of Guru Granth Sahib, Patiala, continuing that department's programme of making Gurmukhi textual material available for research. The contents show that the volume prints the thirty-eight vaars (songs) with their tuk-tatkar (explanatory sections), an index (anumranika) and a glossary. Its own preface points out that Bhai Gurdas discusses Gurmukhi doctrines both at the level of philosophical principle and at the level of style and language, and that his language is closer to ordinary Punjabi than that of Bhai Nand Lal.
