What this book is about

A language primer by Principal Santokh Singh, a retired District Education Officer, published by B. Chattar Singh Jiwan Singh, Bazar Mai Sewan, Amritsar, sixth edition February 2005. Despite the title the book is arranged as reference sections rather than daily lessons: preliminaries on reading, writing and pronouncing the Gurmukhi alphabet with declension tables, a large vocabulary divided by topic (body parts, birds, days, months, colours, numbers, occupations, agriculture, education and so on), a grammar section on gender, number, case, pronouns, verbs and tenses, then sentence-making and composition exercises including story and dialogue writing, letters and ardaas.
