What this book is about
The first part of the Shabdaarth of Sri Guru Granth Sahib, prepared by Guru Sewak Sabha and issued in successive editions, the prefatory note being dated October 2009. It records that the work began on 28 May 1936, that it was written at Guru Nanak College, Gujranwala, under Dr. and Mrs. Darshan Singh, and that the cost of printing was met by Baba Sarup Singh, proprietor of Bawa Brothers, Lahore; 2,000 copies of the first edition were printed and the price was raised from eleven to thirteen rupees. The four potis of 1,430 pages each are arranged so that any page of the work corresponds to the same page of the standard 1,430-page Birha, with the scriptural text given first and the meanings of its rare words placed alongside. Earlier editions were printed by the Shromani Gurbani Prakash Committee, which is now printing the sixth, and a second edition revised the definitions and filled in gaps left by duplicate or incomplete tuks.
