by www.DiscoverSikhism.com
What this book is about
Volume one of Dr Jodh Singh's critical edition of the Varan of Bhai Gurdas, giving the Gurmukhi text, a Roman transliteration and an English translation, with a note on the principles of transliteration and a preface explaining that Bhai Gurdas's poems expound the doctrines of the Guru Granth Sahib (sangat, haumai, gurmukh and manmukh, truth, the Name) and that the author had already rendered both the Dasam Granth and the Varan into Hindi. This volume opens with a life-and-works essay on Bhai Gurdas and a study of him as philosopher, then treats Vars 1 to 20, closing with a glossary and index. It was first published in 1998, reprinted 2013, by B. Chattar Singh Jiwan Singh of Bazar Mai Sewan, Amritsar.
